After graduating from National University in 1994, Jason began his CPA training at BDO Seidman affiliate offices. He found that he was interested in everything, and the folks at BDO were kind enough to let him try everything out, including auditing, corporate and individual taxes, and various pieces of consulting engagements.
After about 4 years, in 1998, Jason took off several months to travel and upon his return landed a job as Assistant Controller of Aqualung America, a multi-national scuba diving gear company he had worked with while in public accounting. Four years later, in November 2002, after a promotion to Controller and some fantastic corporate experience with manufacturing, multinational subsidiaries, and auditing from the client side of things, Jason left the corporate world. "What can I say, it just wasn't my cup of tea," he says. He preferred the interactions with, and challenges faced by, smaller clients he worked with in his BDO years. Exiting the corporate world also afforded Jason the opportunity to place more emphasis on areas that bring him happiness; life balance and compassion.
So Jason started down the path he's currently on in 2003 by incorporating his own business. For the next several years he slowly picked up individual and business clients while doing consulting work for other CPA firms from Thousand Oaks to Santa Cruz. In 2007 he stopped consulting for other CPAs to focus more fully on developing his own business and serving his own clients.
Jason now enjoys the honor of running Peak Accounting, a firm that serves local small businesses and their owners, including non profit entities. That, and his family, round out his life.
Jason's work days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
